Chintzy Pink Nursery

image003And I mean chintzy in the best way. This image appeared in my inbox thanks to Jennifer, who said ‘I would LOVEEEEEE to have a nursery like that for my little girl’. And wow, it was a challenge! This one is a bit DIY-heavy, as having a bright pink nursery has fallen out of fashion over the last, maybe 20 years? But for the right home, this could look wonderful even in 2013- and can be done for much cheaper than it looks.

2 Buy a floor standing lamp such as ‘Bailey’ for £69 from Made. Replace the fabric on the lampshade:Trim with mini pink pom-poms from Sew Sweet.

3 Using Dylon machine dye in powder pink, dye the loose cover on an ‘Ektorp’ armchair (£175) and ‘Kompisar’ cot bumper pad (£10) both from Ikea.

4 Make a cot valance in pink cotton fabric following this tutorial from 413 Sparrow Lane.

InteriorLooksDIY111 The internet is great for finding things like copyright free images, such as this fleur de lis symbol. FIND

Keep an eye out at Charity shops, carboot sales, eBayGumtree & your local paper. Takes a bit of time but there are bargains to be baggedInteriorLooksFIND11A quick search on my local Gumtree and eBay and I found second hand carver chairs for £10-£30. You’re likely to pick these up in antique centres too. You may need to clean them up, restain the wood with a dark mahogany wood dye like this, and reupholster the seat using a heavy fabric, but it’ll be worth the effort, and tonnes cheaper than a new one.
