Chintzy Pink Nursery

image003And I mean chintzy in the best way. This image appeared in my inbox thanks to Jennifer, who said ‘I would LOVEEEEEE to have a nursery like that for my little girl’. And wow, it was a challenge! This one is a bit DIY-heavy, as having a bright pink nursery has fallen out of fashion over the last, maybe 20 years? But for the right home, this could look wonderful even in 2013- and can be done for much cheaper than it looks.

2 ‘Almost Oyster’ silk emulsion 2.5l. £18.95 Wilkinsons

3 ‘Brighton’ cot. £79.99 Toys R Us. (Or obviously you could try to get a second hand metal framed cot and paint it like this one– though it sounds like hard work!)

5 Patchwork cushion cover. £18 Not on the Highstreet

6 Traditional rug 120x180cm. £94.04 Cheap Rugs UK

A bit more work, but with a box of bits and tutorials a click away, you can create something by hand and at a fraction of the price of buying newInteriorLooksDIY12

For the first two DIY’s, you’ll need some floral cotton fabric like ‘Rose Floral’ from FabricBuy.

1 Make a quilted baby blanket- like this beginners tutorial from Pretty Prudent.

2 Buy a floor standing lamp such as ‘Bailey’ for £69 from Made. Replace the fabric on the lampshade:Trim with mini pink pom-poms from Sew Sweet.

3 Using Dylon machine dye in powder pink, dye the loose cover on an ‘Ektorp’ armchair (£175) and ‘Kompisar’ cot bumper pad (£10) both from Ikea.

4 Make a cot valance in pink cotton fabric following this tutorial from 413 Sparrow Lane.

5 Age new childrens furniture like this table and chair set for £39.99 from Argos by following Kirsty Allsopp’s tutorial to paint and distress furniture. Emulsion paint in ‘Oak Leaf’ from Wilkinsons will add a contrast to all that pink!

Send me an image of an interior you’ve fallen in love with- find Interior Looks on TumblrTwitterFacebook or email at interiorlooksuk(at)gmail(dot)com. It could be a photo from a hotel you’ve stayed in or an image on a designer website or from an interiors magazine, or even a still from a film of TV show. I’ll source the bits and pieces required for you to recreate the look at home, at an affordable price.
